(Idk if i will ever be able to type out his relationships with any of the other BW characters, i just wanted to write this) Might aswell type out what (BW) Noodle does when he's pissed at someone ig it provides a model for respecting your female characters in a genre in which they do often die and have to die for the plot. but she wasn’t that archetype, despite ultimately serving the same function, and I’m glad for that.

She could’ve easily been the archetype of vapid cheerleader always showing skin and only ever drawing out character development from other characters. In this, she was the same as every other character this season, navigating the traps of mythology (Eddie thinking she’s scary, her mother forcing the idea of the perfect woman down her throat, Jason needing her to be “pure” in death, etc). The writers don’t let the audience forget that though she was often misinterpreted by others in life or death, it was always undeservingly. she had a backstory that she was still grappling with - which other main characters, like max briefly, gave value to and actually bothered trying to help her with. Chrissy was a girl in the middle of transition and the construction of her teenage identity, a girl with agency if not much power, a girl busy with building a community network and her own life. and this sentiment was created regardless of how she was only the latest in a long string of terrible fatalities in hawkins over the past few years. it wasn’t tragic just because of the brutality and the danger it symbolizes to the other characters, but because she was a character whose trajectory felt cut short. Subversion doesn’t always mean good writing but Chrissy’s dying despite everyone expecting her to join the main cast is an example of the good type imo. El with needing herself to be a superhero, max with needing billy to be one, the audience with needing a vapid, skin showing cheerleader to be the first kill, first etc etc So I’m glad they’re kinda deconstructing the mythologies of these characters. Stranger things has always been inherently referential and retrospective so they’ve had to comment on genre and period tropes.
